07.18.2009 -- NEWS -- The .40 Caliber Mouse has been immortalized as a tat! Timothy Sheriff of Pennsylvania decided to put "Lucky the Vicious" on his left arm July 18 at Needleplay in Pottsville, Pa. Timothy met author Stephen Pytak and company at The Angela Triplex Theatre, Coaldale, Pa., on June 20, when Mazz Press sponsored a screening of Lucio Fulci's classic "Gates of Hell." Stephen had a stand in the lobby, which featured his novels, posters, bookmarks, T-shirts, etc., and the symbol of the angry-looking mouse with the gun caught Tim's eye. Tim said it would make a great tattoo. No question about it. Filled with attitude, the rodent is a symbol of defiance. Girls also think it's "cute." While a few people have talked about getting a "Lucky" tat, we believe Tim is the first. By the way, that night at the theatre, Timothy tried on our "Carrion Crow" mask for fun. Then he accompanied Stephen on stage for introductions before the show. Thanks Tim!
Here's a cool piece of fan art by Reno we received, featuring pix and graphics from our Website.

It features three bold leads. One of the more enigmatic wears a mask. Stephen designed that mask (drawing it over and over from many angles and putting together an 18-page report). He hired Lubatti Designs, California, to create it. The contract began today. Stephen will post news and images as they become available.

04.27.2008 -- Thanks to everyone who put in their two cents on the draft of the cover for "The .40 Caliber Mousehunt," due to be published some time this year. Over the past week, Stephen posted it (and a few other drafts) here, on MySpace and on Facebook. And he's received a mix of suggestions and praise from friends, including artist Norm Breyfogle, whose "Corinn" is prominently featured on the cover:

"The cover looks great, Stephen! Very eye-catching. Love the purple." -- Norm Breyfogle, artist for "The .40 Caliber Mousehunt."

"It really grabs you when you look at it almost like she is jumping off the page at at you. Also I like that it is mainly purple, black and white. Very streamlined, not distracting. It is pretty cool. Whoever did the art work is talented." -- Christina Hale, Ashland, Pa.

"I think this is great! The color purple 'pops' and grabs your attention & the devilish vixen on the front cover calls out, 'the point of goth is the ice pick I am about to shove through your throat and pin you to the wall with"...*L*..(just kidding).....but honestly, if I saw this book on the shelf it would definitely grab my attention to pick it up and see what it is all about. Good Luck with everything Steve!!! I think it's great the way it is!" -- Cindy Grubbs, Saint Clair, Pa.

"Nicely done...Again, that Breyfogle artwork is really striking." -- Tom Coombe, Allentown, Pa.

"Kinda fits right in with my Stan Lee comments. I think it fits in as a selling tool to that certain genre of the public reader that you are targeting (did I just say that?) Ha Ha! Anyhow, I really do like it!" -- Denny Graham, Harrisburg, Pa.

"I like it. The purple isn't 'poppy' like before, I think it's just about the perfect shade because you said the darker you went the harder it was to read the print." -- Brandy Rissmiller, Nazareth, Pa.

04.06.2008 -- NEWS -- A lengthy account of author Stephen Pytak's kidney-transplant experience was published today in The REPUBLICAN & Herald, Pottsville, Pa.

02.06.2008 -- NEWS -- Yesterday I found out Norm Breyfogle -- the legendary comic book artist I hired for my second novel "The .40 Caliber Mousehunt" -- put up "The .40 Caliber Mouse" as a topic on his message boards at www.normbreyfogle.com. He also posted four samples of the artwork I commissioned. Click on MESSAGE BOARD then NORM'S NEW PROJECTS and it's fourth from the top. Check it out, and leave feedback, if you have time. I'm going to post something there later tonight. The second part of "The .40 Caliber Mouse" series, "Mousehunt" is a dark actioner in which our heroes -- mercenaries made popular by the Internet -- are running from the clutches of a society obsessed with hiring them, using them or killing them.

02.03.2008 -- Sorry I haven't updated the site in some time. I've been healing from the kidney transplant I received on Dec. 25. This week, I started submitting "The .40 Caliber Mousehunt" to publishers. Keep your fingers crossed and we'll keep you posted.

09.05.2007 -- I again want to thank the five people who have volunteered to edit and critique a draft of my new novel, "The .40 Caliber Mousehunt." Today I received a copy edited by Denny Graham of Harrisburg. He had this to say after turning the last page:

"If Stan Lee were to write an action novel...this would be it. Human characters just a little shy of action heroes. Colorful, fun, occasionally funny, fast-paced. There wasn't one chapter that did not urge me to read the next.. I can't help but believe that what you will hear most in your reviews of this book will be 'So, how soon does the 3rd book come out?"

07.18.07 -- The first round of editing is complete! Stephen's wife, Becki, spent whatever free time she had (she doesn't have much by the way) reading through the book with a red pen. Meanwhile Stephen combed through it again and again. In the process, a few new scenes were added and now the book clocks in at 66,536 words. This week, the book went onto the second round of editing. Five copies were printed out and given to five friends: a musician, a truck driver, a retired person, a metal head and a Vampire novelist. They are expected to finish it within a month and offer their recommendations, if any.

04.26.2007 -- NEWS -- A six-part series Stephen had written in 2006 on the consolidation of three Catholic elementary schools was given Honorable Mention in the 2007 Pennsylvania Keystone Awards.

04.22.2007 -- Finally the first draft is complete, clocking in at 63,333 words. So many changes took place with this book since I came up with the concept back in 2003. Now we're going to print it out and let a few trusted souls read it before we do a final edit and submit it to potential agents and publishers. Meanwhile, Breyfogle will deliver additional artwork by mid July.
